Watering Herbs in a Strawberry Pot

I once saw on tv someone had planted some herbs in a strawberry pot. I tried it last year and gave it to my mother for mother's day. The herbs grew but I had not arranged them properly (taller plants were at the top and smaller plants at the bottom). The other problem was it was hard to water them. How do you get the water to run through evenly instead of just straight down?

Put the pot into the sink (to save the floor!) and using the hose end of the kitchen faucet spray not only the top, but also into each pocket.
