Acorus Calamus from seed

I purchased the seed from Richters' last fall. Now I'm ready to give it a try. Any tips or advice on germination and establishing plants is appreciated. Is it difficult? Is there a proper time of year to start it?

It is best to start the seed in the spring. According to "Encyclopedia of Water Garden Plants" by Speichert, it is not hard, but no matter what you do you only get 60% germination. Sow the seeds in a pot, cover with their width with fine soil and keep moist. Stratifying seeds for three weeks to 3 months does not improve rate of germination. I would soak the seeds in tepid water overnight before sowing to try to cut the time it takes to germinate, by having them hydrated right from the start.
