I live in Butte, MT, USA and would like to try my hand at growing some lavender. I have a flat of Munsteadlavender started. There are several little starts in each
section. They have two sets of true leaves, but are rather spindly.Because the seedlings are spindly, it means that they are not getting enough light. You can help that by either moving the flat to a much brighter location, or thinning the seedlings in each cell to the strongest. If you want to repot it may work too, but remember that lavender hates root disturbance and should only be potted on without disturbing the original root ball- while they are so small that any shock could kill them.
My question is this, I am going to transplant them to a bigger container, even though they are spindly. Do I thin them out in this container. For example, should my new 2 inch container have only one start, should I thin out all the rest and only leave the hardiest one? Or should this pot contain several little starts growing together?
