I live in Oklahoma. Does wild ginseng grow here? And what part?
There may be some very limited parts of OK where native ginsengs still grow, but it is considered "endangered" in your region. There are other good crops worth consideration, however. And forest farming a COG ginseng (4-year rotation) is always a good investment.
Your region has good stands of Scullcap (Scutelaria lateriflora). There are several other species harvested from the wild, but the S. lateriflora is the only one which is in market demand. The world market is estimated to be more than 12,000 acres. North American market are only 1,000 acres, and unknown acres wildcrafted.
I have written numerous books on farming and wildcrafting these various crops. You should start with my book "Native Plants of Commercial Importance." "Forest Farming" is still in draft, but already working with ginseng, cascara, and numerous other farm demonstrations. It is a great way to supplement rural incomes, and this book has 50 chapters.
