Overweight Dog

I am looking for someone to help with small dog dosage of herbs. I have one: she is about 19 to 20 pounds, but should be 15 to 16. She gets walked and played with a lot. She is on a diet of Hill's can food for stones in the bladder. I cut down the amount of each feeding (twice a day). Any info would be helpful.

There is an excellent book on herbal dog and cat care. It is Juliette de Bairacli Levy's "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" and it is available from Richters.
Bairacli Levy says this about obese dogs:
"This condition is generally more prevalent in bitches... and is frequently of a glandular-sexual nature... An abnormal accumulation of fatty tissue is not merely a harbourer of tonix accumulations, but also puts great pressure on the blood system which has to pump its way through the semi-diseased (fatty) areas of the body..."
She goes on to recommend a corrective laxative diet for breaking down fatty tissue. She includes short fasts of 2-3 days on water only along with aboundant exercise. She uses senna as the laxative, and gives a recommended dose of 2-3 pods for an average sized dog. She also recommends rosemary, parsley, dandelion, and seaweed. For more details check her book.
