Cat and Insulin

I have a cat that is about 15 years old. He has been on 3 units of insulin twice a day for over two years. Our veterinarian told us that the average life for a cat on maintenance is two years so we are concerned that he will not live much longer. He seems as healthy as ever but we know it's a matter of time before he starts failing. We would like to find out if we could put him on something all natural to either take the place of the insulin or cure his diabetes. Is there anything that you know of that we could do for him?
Once an animal is on insulin it is important to stay with that regime, therefore herbs are not your answer as a replacement. However, you can strengthen your cat's general health by making sure he is on a good homemade diet. Please see the resources listed in the posting entitled, "Dog and Allergies" on this website (www.richters.com). In this instance, herbs might be able to help with complications that have arisen due to the diabetes, but not to replace the insulin itself.
